I'd like to see us, as a group, work on a project together. It could be as simple as working with plants or working a special event the zoo.
Sort food, pack bags for Senior citizens and children, sort bread or work in a green house or garden.
Adoption Outreach Events are held at several different locations around Oklahoma City and is the primary way most of our animals are adopted. Adoption Outreaches are lots of fun and very social; duties include handling dogs and/or cats, answering questions about OK Humane for the public and helping with set up and take down of our cages and materials.
Have always wanted to do this but never have. Anyone else interested?
The last job I had, I worked in a group home for kids in norman. There is a cluster of about four group homes all in the same area... Kids stay here when being evaluated.... Youngest age 4-5 and the oldest up to age 16.... They could use our help and donations! Things like ART MATERIALS, GAMES, LEARNING MATERIAL, CLOTHES FOR ALL AGES AND SIZES..... The particular group home I worked at, did not even have decent curtains over the window, just sheets; and the children kept their clothes in wooden drawers of a dresser that had nails coming up from the bottom, and had to slide them out from underneath the bed.... Blankets they had are THIN with holes in them. They could really use the communities help, OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER! I would like to see something contributed to helping them... Just thought I would share.
Serve a meal out of their kitchen.
Let's do an all out Battle of the Bands. We get a venue and a few bands maybe we can get a local music store to donate an instrument as a prize. It will be a party but we charge the bands to enter (or alternately we sell tickets to the event) and all money raised goes to a local charity (maybe music education or the like)...we could host it somewhere family friendly but maybe even more fun is we do it at a club/bar and make a party out of it!
I'm on the Huntington's Disease Foundation board, and we are putting on a Walk for Hope at Stars and Stripes park sometime in the fall. We are looking for volunteers to help with sign up and handing out items. I thought this would be a great volunteer opportunity for Project OKC. Let me know what you guys think!
So I havent been to active in the group because Im way to active with service projects in my sorority lately but I had an idea that would be great and benefit our local seniors. Sunbeam Senior center is in need of food. The senior center takes in seniors from dire situations such as elder abuse etc. My sorority Beta Sigma Phi just donated over 400 lbs of food but that sad thing is there pantry was empty so that only helped so much. Sunbeam relies on donations and I was wondering if we could organize a food drive to help them. I was there the other day and they had a piece of bread, a piece of lunchmeat and some ramen noodles. This is not what our elderly should be eating. This event can be just as easy as the Snuggies (they take those to...we just donated over 50 to them) we just need some place to host it.
